lol. I remember when a famous poster here who was very dark skinned, irascible and older … can’t remember his name—- said we need a big white banger … . Anyway…He went on to add that he could say that with impunity because he was black. lol

Sad that in 2024 people still turn on tv, see white basketball players that they know nothing about and say "high bball IQ, good work ethic, can shoot the ball" ... I'm sure the opposite thoughts start when they see black players too.

I’m just surprised to hear any well spoken folks/players— no matter how old they are, their gender, what the skin color is or how they dress.
But yes, there are folks like you describe but less than there used to be…it is changing. Shrug. I have a business on Main Street in a small tourist town, People from all over the US and the world visit here. There is more tolerance afoot. Lol.

Everything both Percy and the other poster said was spot. If you think people aren’t profiled by race , regardless then I got some swamp land to sell. And if someone is that sensitive to want to keep stuff hidden the he or she has a bigger problem. Maybe if things were more out in the open we wouldn’t have the problems we have. But the fact that Austin Nichols is the only one we’ve had that’s been any good in 30 years speaks volumes

And sometimes you have to infer what people are REALLY saying. I doubt Percy means that all white players are smarter than black players. What I think he is REALLY saying is that white athletes usually can't rely on their explosive athleticism to succeed in the game sometimes or to even see the floor, so they oftentimes have to bring other things to the table in order to even scratch the pecking order on the roster. They have to become better shooters (lack height and jumping ability), become better at other tangibles, etc. If they don't play a lofty style of game, then most wouldn't play at all.
And none of that is wrong to say, as it is his opinion, and none of that has to be taken to a race baiting level. Folks have become programmed to get triggered. I'm not defending or promoting anything, I am just saying it is a choice to take things personally at times, in my opinion.

Can we afford it though? The university has an extremely small pool of donors they tap for every single need. We have a LOT of things we need to be investing in to support the actual mission of being a university and a cornerstone for a floundering city.
