add some imitation crab to the mix and you have crab puffs….these are so good and if you flash fry them you can freeze them….would not recommend freezing them if you dont fry them first or they will stick together. I love your recipes.

    • Kelly

Exactly what I was thinking! I used to get Crab Puffs from a restaurant years ago!

  • Kristina

I just have to ask…what’s the coconut oil in the picture for?

    • Budget Savvy Diva

It is the oil I used to cook the wontons in

  • toni

Oh, I love these,,, try Salmon Cream cheese with a little Dill. Or any fruit flavored cream cheese and you can add a chunk of fruit! Dip in Chocolate too! Sundried tomato with basil… So many yummy things! 🙂

  • Sherise

Can these be baked instead of fried? I dont fry food maybe a sautee here and there, but these look and sound AWESOME and I love the idea about using fruit!! a MUST TRY!

    • Budget Savvy Diva

I love the idea – I am sure they can be baked

That’s what I do. I ALWAYS bake mine. I give them a little spritz of cooking spray and pop them in a 350 F oven until brown. The cooking spray helps them crisp up nicely. My family LOVES cream cheese won tons and I love that I can bake them and save some of the calories so I can have a couple extra ;).

1 8oz pkg cream cheese/1 tsp garlic salt /1/2 tsp lemon juice…combine add crab meat and combine…and you have crab rangoon…Ive made them for years and we will have them tonight with Chicken LoMein…delish ~

Thanks! I usually buy those prepackaged ones at the commissary, and they’re over $2.00 for a 6 pack! I think these will be way better!

  • Laura S.

Can these be made ahead of time and reheated? (Or room temp?)

  • Annie

Flash freeze on a cookie sheet. They wont stick together. After frozen, they can be bagged and frozen for later use. I have done this for years.

I have been craving Chinese for along while now. So I decided to make a full dinner of take-out fake-outs tonight. This just made the list. I found a recipe for homemade wonton wrappers too so I don’t have to go to the store for anything. I am going to try baking them instead of frying them. Thank you again for another great DIY recipe.

  • trina

do you know how this recipe would turn out if I substituted the wonton wrapper for rice paper wrappers for a gluten free option?
