Whiskey and Carbon Sequestration.Over the weekend, I tried Noble Oakโ€™s Double Oak Bourbon. This is not a whiskey review however. While it is a good โ€œbang for the buckโ€, the reason for this post is about Noble Oakโ€™s mission. For every bottle purchased, they will work with their partners over at One Tree Planted to do just that - plant a tree. Trees are a natural resource that provide us with material to meet a plethora of needs in our lives. Oak trees though - youโ€™ve got to love them. Oaks are a symbol of strength, they provide food for wildlife, and are widely used for barrels in the aging of wine and whiskey. They also join other tree species to serve us with a God given means to sequester carbon. The U.S. Forest Service has reported that our forests sequester over 800 million tons of carbon each year (~16% of all carbon emissions). So, if youโ€™re up for something new and interested in helping Noble Oak with its tree planting mission, pick a bottle up. And of course, enjoy responsibly.#whiskey #environment #sustainability

At Deborah Brosnan and Associates, we don't just offer recommendations; we take the lead in designing, implementing, and monitoring our projects from inception to completion. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ”ง๐ŸŒ Take our Mangrove nursery in Barbuda, for instance. These young saplings are more than just plants; they are a promise of Protection, Resiliency, and Nature-Based Solutions for the island. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š We empower local community leaders in our nurseries, enabling them to champion revitalization efforts. ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒŠ Within our nursery, we currently have 257 mangroves growing in six plots, with plans to continue expanding and growing more! These Red Mangroves (Rhizophora mangle) have grown from seedlings, can you guess how long it's taken them to get this size? #NatureBasedSolutions #MangroveRestoration #EcosystemResiliency

๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฝ๐ŸŽ‹ Unlocking the Secrets of the Three Sisters: Perfect for Arid Gardens and Dryland Agriculture ๐Ÿœ๏ธ๐ŸŒฟDiscover the extraordinary wisdom of the Three Sisters, a remarkable combination that holds immense potential for arid gardens and dryland agriculture. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’ฆThis unique trio, perfected over centuries by Native Americans, offers an ingenious solution for cultivating in water-limited environments. ๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿž๏ธSister Bean, a master of nitrogen fixation, enriches the soil with precious nutrients, essential for sustained plant growth in arid conditions. Her presence breathes life into the barren land, unlocking its hidden potential. ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŒฟSister Corn, standing tall and strong, provides the perfect support system for Sister Bean's trailing vines. Their partnership ensures stability and enables them to reach for the sun, maximizing their growth potential in arid environments. ๐ŸŒฝโ˜€๏ธSister Squash gracefully sprawls across the ground, serving as a natural ground cover. With her spiny prickly stems, she acts as a protector, deterring animal invaders, while her presence helps retain moisture in the soil and maintains a healthy environment for all the sisters to thrive. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’ฆBut the circle is not complete without the fourth sister, Sister Sunflower *( Oswego Tea or Bee Balm). These radiant companions lend their support to the sisters' symbiotic bond. Sister Sunflower's seeds attract birds away from the corn, ensuring its safety, while she beckons and nourishes essential insect pollinators, contributing to the overall fertility of the ecosystem. ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ๐ŸŒผA testament to the wisdom of Native American communities, the Four Sisters embody a sustainable and holistic approach which can be easily transplaneted to dryland agriculture. This harmonious combination nurtures not only plants but also the delicate balance of the ecosystem. ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒLet's embrace the lessons of the past and incorporate the time-honored tradition of the Three Sisters into our own arid gardens and dryland agricultural practices. By doing so, we can contribute to desert greening and create resilient, thriving environments for generations to come. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ’š#ThreeSisters #AridGardens #DrylandAgriculture #NativeAmericanWisdom #SustainablePractices #WaterEfficiency #ResilientEcosystems #DesertGreening #HarmonyWithNature #CultivatingTraditions #FutureGenerationsAfforest for Futurehttps://lnkd.in/e6W6t8wp

I want to shout out to Clay Alexander Robison, who passed away at 59 on 7 Jan 1966.He served for many years as the Story County Conservation Board Secretary and was a National Director of the Izaak Walton League of America (national office). Prior to his passing, he donated land to form a wildlife refuge. We need more people like him in our world.Today, I enjoyed hiking on that land. I was inspired to learn that the county is applying innovative conservation efforts such as removing invasive plants like honeysuckle and multi-flora rose and using goats to graze the underbrush in order to restore the area to the native vegetation that likely existed prior to the settlement of the State.Opportunities to provide service and do lasting good for our communities exist all around us.What better way to instill character, values, and principles and build community than to organize and serve on a conservation project? Numerous publications document the decline of social consciousness and the erosion of the core values necessary for better business and effective (good) government. Articles describe increasing social awkwardness and the lack of fundamental leadership. A mechanism to reverse that trend is staring us in the face. Let's take advantage of it!#conservation #leadershipdevelopment #values #corevalues #betterbusiness #goodgovernance #givingback
