Indoor Pig Pens/Ideas

Where should you put your pig if you will be away from home for an extended part of the day? Or at work? My pig goes outside during the day, she has a nice pig house outside to get out of any inclement weather and to stay cool/warm, however, I do understand that not everyone has ideal situations where this is possible. Some pigs do fine having complete access to the house while others (like my pig) will destroy everything in their path. I have come home to find EVERY label was ripped off canned foods, my pig has gotten into the trash can, the freezer, the cabinets, every piece of food she could reach, potatoes, onions...she has torn up flooring, walls, magazines and bed spreads. I said all that to say....my pig stays in a crate when I am not home (and she isn't outside) and at night. She actually loves her crate, it is her "safe" area and she willingly goes into the crate at bedtime. I suggest everyone crate train their pig just for peace of mind and to make transporting easier and safer. I do not believe a pig should live in a crate ALL the time, but I think every pig should feel comfortable getting in and out of a crate. Here are some additional ideas for an inside pen. (Thanks for our Mini Pig Info fans for sending in their pictures)

People have asked about pens for the inside of the home. You should crate train your pig regardless of where your pig sleeps at night. Crate training provides a safe way to transport your pig without having to stress your pig out to get them in a vehicle as well as containment for the ride. Below is a repurpose crate idea I found. Crates are sold at most pet stores, Walmart, Target and Tractor Supply Centers.

Andy Wisniewski explains his pigs pen...Truffles "room" is a slide in peice that uses the galley in our kitchen. The flooring needs replaced again. She tears it up when she's angry. She can be a bit spiteful when she doesn't get her way. This is where she sleeps and is safe when we aren't home. She spends most of her day roaming the house and going outside through the dog door.
