Omaha, Neb. (May 16, 2024) – A month before the 2024 College World Series (CWS) when baseball players and fans are pursuing the “the Road to Omaha”; rodeo contestants made the trek to the Sarpy County Fairgrounds near Omaha to compete in the inaugural Tangier Shrine PRCA Rodeo. Cowboys and cowgirls competed for $36,162 in prize money.

“It was our first rodeo, and we are grateful to the rodeo fans and sponsors that supported this effort. Our Tangier Shrine is comprised of so many dedicated volunteers. Lady Erin and I are humbled by the support of Tangier’s Nobles and their ladies. By attending our fundraising events, everyone contributes to supporting the mission of Tangier. Through our efforts we are able to educate the public and assist in finding young people in our community that can benefit from the specialty care provided through the Shriners Children’s Healthcare Network,”stated Rodeo Chairman Bryan Deming, the 2024 Potentate of the Tangier Shrine Center.
Rough stock cowboy Gage McBride from Kearney won $1,166 in the bareback competition. The 22-year-old Nebraskan competed during the final performance. It paid off. He drew the bucking horse D6 of the Barnes PRCA Rodeo string and scored 81.5 points. McBride is currently number one in the Prairie Circuit Standings at the time of press.
“I didn’t plan on going to Springfield at first, I had planned to kinda take a weekend off,” he explained, “But, I seen there were some good horses out and it was only two hours from the house. So, I figured I had better go and it was a great decision. Was a great rodeo with a great arena and crowd,” he admitted.
The Prairie Circuit Rodeo was co-sanctioned with the Great Lakes Circuit. A Nebraskan also won the Tie-Down Roping title. Norfolk native Austin Hurlburt roped his calf in 10 second flat to win $1,233.51 in prize money.
Team Roping partners Daniel Durkes and J.R. Williams both of Eskridge, Kan. split over $3,000 in prize money by clocking a 6.9 second run. Texan, T.W. Flowers from Old Glory rode his saddle bronc horse for 82.5 points worth $1,116.72 in prize money. Iowan, Emmett Edler from State Center wrestled his steer in 4.1 seconds winning $1,315.29. Barrel Racer Katie Chism from Tiskilwa, Ill. ran the fastest pattern clocking 15.98 seconds and good for $981.07. Hawaiian bull rider Koby Jacobson scored 82 points on the bull Suitcase Man winning $1,039.17. The complete list of winners is available on www.prorodeo.com under their results section.
