Mary Elizabeth Davis today, March 7, 2024, began her service to Cherokee County as our new Superintendent of Schools.
True to her 100-day plan’s mission -- “Listen to understand, Lean-in to remember, and Learn to Lead” – Mary Elizabeth spent her first day visiting schools and meeting students, teachers and support staff, families and business and community partners.
Over the course of the day, she visited a school in every one of CCSD’s six Innovation Zones and saw students learning in 15 classes across the district. Mary Elizabeth heard band students play and kindergarteners sing phonics songs. She shot hoops in PE class and stacked blocks for frogs to hop in the STEAM lab. Mary Elizabeth climbed aboard a school bus, went behind the scenes in video production class, shared lunchtime in the cafeteria and saw how CCSD students are learning to read, write, solve math problems, learn history, explore science, express creativity, succeed in careers and much more.
Mary Elizabeth started her day even earlier than the first bell for school by attending the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce’s Good Morning Cherokee breakfast. She ended it long after dismissal by cheering on, with her husband and their two children, both the Cherokee High School Warriors and the Woodstock High School Wolverines at their girls lacrosse match.
“I love the first day of school and the incredible excitement it brings. Today gave me that feeling thanks to the amazing people I met at every school,” she said. “I’m so thankful to now be a part of our school district and look forward to the next chapter in this story that we will write together.”
Mary Elizabeth will be visiting all of CCSD’s schools this month, and we’ll share more photos on this webpageand social media.
