NEW TORK. Sept. week's operations in the stock market showed the still stimulating effect of the redundant condition of the money market by a further rise in prices for the first few days. The sharp reaction which accompanied the small flurry in the call money market of the latter part of the week was a striking testimony to the important part played in the speculative position by the ease of the money market. The abundance of funds which could be procured on call at 1 per cent.
or constituted A strong attraction for the taking on of stock holdings and the marking up of prices. The operations to this end been frankly ascribed to a limited circle of capitalists, with the following of strictly professional operwho trade in and out of the market in the wake of such a movement. There has been general agrecment among commission houses that the general public was taking small part in the current activity in the market. The inference from this condition would be that the active dealings on the stock exchange were not effecting any widesprend distribution of stocks. There is equal agreement, on the other hand, that substantial holders of stocks have shown little disposition to market their holdings in spite of the attractive level, to which prices have been lifted summer's rise.
The readjustment of prices wras justified in the minds of its promoters by the low interest for money compared with the return on securities and by the revival in business activity. That the money condition was outrunning the business improvement as 3. dominant influence 011 the stock market has been a growing suspicion which is emphasized by the revision called for of come of the earlier estimates of the latter factor. The hopes at one time entertained of bumper grain crops have disappeared in face of the government's estimate of the Sept. 1 condition, published last week.
The promise of good average crops and at profitable prices, which is now in prospect, does not alter the necessity for speculative readjustment of earlier and more A sanguine estimates. The moderate rate of recuperation in the iron and steel trade and the lack of evidence that railroad earnIngs are being restored to the former level of like admonitory influence upon excess of speculative enthusiasm. The opinion of the small extent to which investment holdings stocks are being marketed finds an exception in the case of foreign holdings, of which free offerings are coming home according to experts in the foreign market. TO This is believed to form an exchange and international stock important element in the persistent strength of the foreign exchange market which brought aL revival of talk of possible gold exports during the week. A special factor in the foreign exchange market was the requirements for redemption of New York City revenue bonds falling due in London on Nov.

-Loss. GRAIN AND PROVISIONS. CHICAGO, Sept. 12. Reinstatement today by leading bulls of lines sold out yesterday caused strength in the wheat market.

The wheat market displayed considerable bullishness nearly all day despite the record breaking movement of new wheat in the northwest. A slight dip occurred during the first half hour due to selling based on the liberal receipts at Minneapolis and Duluth, but the market soon rallied again and continued firm the remainder of the day. Arrivals today at Minneapolis were 336 cars and Duluth reported receipts of 520 cars, while Winnipeg followed closely with 357 cars, compared with 36 cars a year ago. This enormous movement failed to affect the market to any great extent because of the fact that the demand for cash wheat in the northwest was more than equal to the supply.

A few of the bull leaders who were free sellers yesterday gave the market vigorous support today and this buying was largely responsible for the firm tone which prevailed the greater part of the day. Many New Gushers Struck in This and Near by States. SPECIAL TO TIE PLAIN DEALER. LIMA, Sept. The past week in the oil fields of the central west has heen both active and remunerative. While the greatest excitement in the older fields is to be found in the Mingo field of southeastern Ohio, all the other old districts enjoyed an exceptionally productive period.
Wells in the central wrest averaged for the week just closed 27 3-4 barrels, the highest average in months. The Illinois production increased, but Increased number of dry holes made the average per well smaller. There were more wells drilled in northwestern Ohio, than for Indiana several and south- weeks past, while the completions in West Virginla were fewer in number, but contained many gushers boosting that state's production to 1,110 barrels for the week. There has been a steady drain on stocks in the eastern fields throughout the past six weeks or more, and this drain has been approximately 2,000 barrels per day. At the same time shipments are much lighter.
There is a steady gain in the receipts from the Illinois field, while the runs from the mid continent, or Oklahoma field, are still below normal and declining. The present production of the old Trenton rock districts of Ohio and Indiana 1s the lowest for any month of the present year. The total stocks now held by the Standard reach approximately a storage of 80,000,000 barrels, the great bulk of which is in the low grade fields of Illinois and the heavier grades of Oklahoma oils, much of which at the present time cannot be utilized. Interest in the eastern oil fields centered during the week in the Mingo district of Jefferson county, Ohio. All the wells drilled have proved producers and some of gusher caliber.
Others are light pumpers. Next to the Bingo field, the deep sand development in Fairfield and P'erry counties is the most interesting in the high grade districts. Wells are coming in good for forty barrels a day or better and the production is steady. In the shallow sand districts operations are very active also, but the developments of the week failed to show any large producers or any prospective new territory: COMMERCIAL. Farmyard and Dairy.
